rye_logoWHAT: Talk on INTERNATIONAL YOUTH EXCHANGE opportunities

WHEN: Friday 14 August

WHERE: Bankers Club, Penthouse Amoda Jalan Imbi

Dear homeschooling families,

It is my pleasure to invite you to our Club’s regular meeting next Friday, 14 August 2009, 6.30 p.m. at the Bankers Club, Penthouse Amoda Jalan Imbi for a talk regarding opportunities to send your teenage children for a short or long term International Youth Exchange program.

We had a similar talk last year, I am sure some of you would have remembered. Next Friday, the speaker will be an IYE participant in 2008. He will share his experience with us and will be accompanied by this year’s IYE Chairlady to provide more insights into this program organised by the Rotary Clubs worldwide.

The dress code is smart casual meaning no jeans, round neck T’s, shorts or sandals.

Take advantage to register early as seats are limited. The trip will mean a whole new experience for your teenage children. For those who has younger children, it may well serve as a preparatory talk if you have future plans to expose international culture to your children.

In Rotary Service,

Kent Leong

Immediate Past President

Rotary Club of Metro Kuala Lumpur

WHAT: Establishing Communication for Non-Verbal Communicators

WHO: Presented by Jennifer E.Peters

WHEN: 1 Aug 2009

WHERE: WISMA MCIS ZURICH, Petaling Jaya

Why is this workshop for you?

Many of us take for granted that a child will start to develop speech at around one and a half years old. And many will look forward to the endless WHY?- questions at the age of two. Unfortunately many will also wonder when their child will call out “mum” or “dad”.

There are endless reasons why a child does not have speech – is it some sort of speech disorder? Just speech delayed? Or a more serious problem? Some will eventually talk when the underlying problems are sorted out. And some may not…

In the meantime, how does that child communicate with the world around him? Come and find out how one can still have 2-way communication with the child. Don’t miss this very important topic as no speech does not mean no communication!

Details are as follows:

1 Aug 2009, 9am – 1pm

Level 9, Tower 2

Wisma MCIS ZURICH

Jln Barat, 46200 PJ

Workshop fees:

Early birds RM50/pax

(payment before 20 July 09)

Regular rate – RM60/pax

RM100 for mum & dad

Workshop discussion for the morning:

1. Behaviours needed for a communicator

2. Alternative communication methods that can be introduced

3. Intervention Goals and Strategies

4. Things to consider to enable their children to become communicators

5. What are the thought processes that a Speech Pathologist considers when planning intervention with a non-verbal client

6. What must be done to stimulate communication development at home.

Our Speaker:

Jennifer Eileen Peters obtained her B.A. (Hons) in Linguistics and Language Pathology from the University of Reading, and her Certificate to Practice from the Royal College of Speech –Language Therapists, London. She obtained her Post-graduate Diploma in the Language and Communication Impairment in Children from The University of Sheffield, United Kingdom and has successfully completed several postgraduate assessment courses offered by ASHA (American Speech Hearing Association) and from Speech Pathology Australia.

She successfully completed her final and advance RDI® training workshop in Houston, U.S.A. in August 2008. Upon the completion of her certification, she will be the first Certified RDI® Programme Consultant in Malaysia.
