See you on this blog!

Posted by DAVID BC TAN under: Announcement on 29 Apr 2009.

I’ve been delinquent in managing incoming emails and requests for subscription. Some of you submitted forms. Sorry. But I finally got around to doing it and so if you’re reading this after receiving an email alert, it’s because I’ve put you on our list. At last. Don’t worry – I’m not selling you anything. However I am an advocate for homeschooling, so my thoughts will appear to be somewhat heavily skewed in favour of alternative education.  You will understand that I can’t apologise for that. <wink> If you think you don’t want to receive further updates, just let me know.

Until then, have a great day. May your adventure in alternative education be a fun-filled one!

MLKU: There are many learning centres in the country and you have to check them out yourself. It’s true that one must have a measure of confidence or some competency in English to homeschool in English, but there are ways around it. Say you are more comfortable in mandarin, if you prefer you can refer to local chinese textbooks and supplement with english tuition. Get some outside help to support areas where you are weak. I know a mother who left school in Form 3 and managed to homeschool her daughter all the way into highschool with some tuition thrown in. Homeschool does not mean that you are the only teacher. There are homeschoolers in Malaysia whose medium of instruction is Malay, and there are homeschoolers in Hong Kong and Taiwan who teach in both Chinese and English. Here’s one bilingual family (Chinese-English) and their blog is at http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/Panshrmu/
